I realize that the "where was womantra" syndrome stems from the brokenness of the Trinidad psyche.
The general populace of Trinidad still expects Massa to provide for all of their needs and solve all of their problems.
Any person or group who begins to show leadership qualities is expected
to be Massa , whereas in another culture the same group would be a
national inspiration for citizens to take charge of their own lives and
communities.
Trinidadians by and
large refuse to innovate, take risks and become independent of the
State. Even many billionaires are completely dependent on political
favours for their profits rather than seeking to innovate (see those
people who pave roads that don't need to be paved)
The
proliferation of this mentality is largely due to our political and
leadership culture where the government behaves like Massa , and the
people have been cultured to live on handouts.
It will take years
to liberate the minds of our society, so in the mean time instead of
reacting with anger to those ignorant persons who try to bring down our
civil society leaders, we should try compassion.
At the very least compassion drains less of our own energy
