In Defence of Independent Senator Kriyaan Singh

RE: The issue of Kriyaan Singh being unfit to be an independent senator and the spat with Rhoda Bharath.
Yes Mr. Singh appears to be crass, rude and often resorting to toilet humour on facebook.
Yes his numerous facebook posts on his charity work may seem to show him seeking attention.
Yes he is a flawed human being.
Do these huge personality flaws make him unfit to be a leader? Lets take a broader look at the issue.
If you actually study leadership, many of history's greatest leaders had huge personality flaws and a spotty past.
Martin Luther King was an adulterer. Winston Churchill opposed women having the right to vote and he was probably an alcoholic.
Imagine if Winston Churchill was prevented from leading England based on his personality flaws? The nation may have fallen apart instead of rising to the challenge at its darkest hour
The reality of Trinidad and Tobago politics is Ten Thousand times darker than anything Kriyaan Singh posts on facebook.
We often mistake having good manners with being a good human being. The most wicked and deviant people use a mask of social grace to hide greed or sexual perversion.
What the public does know :- Elected officials in Trinidad have been caught on tape with prostitutes and smoking marijuana but no action is taken against them . Elected officials allegedly attempt to assassinate individuals and the whole country finds out, but nothing is done.
What the public doesn't know :- Behind the scenes our political system is tied closely to drugs, money laundering and gangs. Sexual perversion and death threats are the norm not the exception to the rule.
Until Mr. Singh is convicted of a serious crime i will consider him a person of better moral character than most of the individuals in Trinidad and Politics. Having a potty mouth is a minor crime compared to the sins committed behind closed doors.
RE: His Independence , unless hard evidence is brought forward to show Mr. Singh is a supporter of the UNC his independence should not be questioned on the basis of his controversial facebook posts.
A scientific method of going about this would be to collate all of Mr. Singh's political posts over the past 5 years and see if his anti UNC posts were as numerous and as flagrant as his present anti PNM posts. A few recent snippets of his activity does not do him justice.
Under section 4 of the constitution Mr. Kriyaan Singh has:
(e) the right to join political parties and to express
political views;
(i) freedom of thought and expression;
Some seek to punish him for exercising these rights as he sees fit.
As counsel for the Late O Clock news , i will vehemently defend the right to utter the most crass and disrespectful statements in the interests of advancing human rights. If we are not free to speak our minds tyranny will creep into our land slowly but surely.
Is Kriyaan Singh a model example of grace and etiquette? No he is not
But does that make him unfit to be a leader?
I am of the opinion that we are better off with him in Parliament to represent the interests of disabled persons as he has done better than anyone else i can think of in our nation's history.
I know what evil looks like , and we have plenty evil in our nation and in our parliament .
But Kriyaan Singh, in my humble opinion is a force for good.

RE: the death of Curtis Pierre the 16 year old criminal at the hands of civilians due to a failed robbery attempt.

RE: News story ‘Bandit’, 16, succumbs to injuries dealt by patrons

The older generation is to blame for creating a toxic political climate and failing law enforcement institutions.
Turn back the clock 10 years to when this boy was 6 years old and still innocent.
If the PNM spent a billion dollars fixing the Judiciary and Police service instead of spending money on an unused stadium and other mega projects the crime scourge might have been severely reduced by now.
Crime did not appear out of nowhere yesterday, it is a systemic and generational issue linked to the inadequacies in our nation's leadership.
If efforts were made to provide better opportunities for the youth and to eliminate this gang culture this boy might have been saved from a life of crime.
If the UNC didn't tolerate politicians with connections to gangs e.g. LifeSport the situation wouldn't' have gotten worse.
Nobody should be celebrating the death of a young man who could easily have been reformed and become a productive member of society today.
He was only 16 years old, at that age my biggest decision in life was what video game to play and what subjects to do for CXC.
His mind was impressionable and easily swayed by gang elements.
If you don't consider life sacred you are no better than the criminals who kill ,rape and steal on a daily basis. You simply have the luxury of a stable income and dont have to turn to crime to make ends meet.
But lacking a moral code you probably would kill someone if the situation called for it just like a criminal.
If you are unable to love your enemy, even the one who tries to steal from you, you are part of the problem.
Those of you who promote using excessive force to harm criminals and extra judicial killings are going to be part of the problem as we seek to fix this nation.
What we need is law and order not wanton violence.
What we need is love and compassion not a culture that has no regard for human life.
