Police seize' Crime Watch Tape, My take on Idiot Alleyne.

Police have seized a tape from TV6 , specifically the tape showing the rape of a 13 year old girl on crime watch..

This means hopefully that some move towards prosecuting the persons responsible for airing the rape on national television SEVERAL TIMES ...
Authorities seek to lay charges under the sexual offences act according to the article , which may result in a jail term of several years for whoever is convicted.

I personally have nothing but contempt for Alleyne , who seems to care only for his own gain above all else. He is reported to be a dental technician by profession (lower than a dentist..) and is not qualified to be talking about issues of Law and national security , he isn't even fully qualified to do a root canal...
He's basically Trinidad's Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck , alot of charisma but no education . A ton of arrogance but no substance.

I previously sent a letter to the papers (which was never published, probably due to the Express's ties to tv6 and crime watch... and the defamatory tone) which is attached below.
Alleyne and the media personnel associated with broadcasting the sex tape most definitely committed a crime in doing so. The only question is how will a case be made against them?
Alleyne can claim he had no direct control over the editing of the video and didn't intend to air obscenity . This can be defeated by showing he generally has great creative control over the course of the show.
Even if there was no initial intention to air obscenities , the episode in question was aired several times . There was ample opportunity to stop or censor the broadcast after public outrage at the sex tape was heard.
Alleyne's response as well, shows no shame or acknowledgment of wrongdoing , just plain arrogance...

Despite any good work he may have done in the past , he has gone too far, and allowing him to continue will only prove how lawless and chaotic the nation has become. To let this offence slide because he's a 'good man' ( as his supporters allege ) is tantamount to allowing a child molester to walk the streets freely because he gives to charity.
A few good deeds do not wipe away crimes against the moral fabric of a nation.

Jail The Crime Watch Criminal .
In showing the rape of a 13 year old girl on national television , Ian alleyne went too far . Alleyne broke both moral law and the law of the land and must be punished . No man is above the law.
Section 46(g) of the summary offences act states :
“Any person who offers for sale or distribution or who exhibits to public view, any

profane, indecent, or obscene book, paper, print, drawing, painting or

representation, shall be liable to imprisonment for 2 months.”
Alleyne showed an obscene video to thousands of viewers on national television . This is possibly THE most flagrant and wide reaching breach of its kind ever to happen in T&T history. This cannot go unpunished.
I call upon the authorities to enforce the law and bring Alleyne to justice. While he has done good works in the past , this does not absolve him of his crime. He must be punished just as any other criminal .
No man is above the law and crime cannot be solved by committing crime.
I also call upon Mr. Alleyne to issue a national apology for his wrongdoing.

RE: Law on this issue , this is bound to be an interesting case that can bring Jurisprudence (philosophy of law) and international law issues into play. There has never been a crime quite like this before, so the laws seeking to punish it will not exactly 'cover' it .
However in past common law cases ( Shaw v DPP) judges have done legal gymnastics to protect 'the moral fabric of society' against obscene publications and the like .
A major influence on this case will hopefully be the International convention on the Rights of the child . International law of this nature exerts a strong influence on our domestic laws , and any ambiguous laws must be interpreted in line with international trends even if they weren't in the past. ( did a 10,000 word paper on this if anyone wants to read) .

Since this case involves a video of an underaged girl being raped, the convention applies .
